Kind of torn on this. On the one hand at times it comes across as the poor man's Tarantino (makes sense, written and directed by Roger Avary, who worked with QT on Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, for which he won an Academy Award), however there were moments of some darkly fun humor and Crispin Glover was great, playing a psychotic French assassin. Don't quite, however, understand why Nina Dobrev was also French as it doesn't really play into the plot whatsoever other than perhaps as an excuse for Avary to use some French music. Otherwise, Luke Bracey was alright and I did like Clé Bennett in his smaller part. I don't know, was hardly terrible but also doesn't hit the mark overall. Giving it a **2.75/5**.

Great watch, would watch again, and do recommend. Crispin Glover runs away with this movie as an insane, gun toting assassin with Nina Dobrev and Clifton Collins Jr. lending some great support. Luke Bracey gives a somewhat forgettable performance for a story in which he's the protagonist. Honestly the story isn't really that great until the 3rd act, and even then, it's not the overall story that is enjoyable itself. Mostly it's Glover acting insane, but movie is filled with ridiculousness so it's just as funny as it is violent. There is a lot of french so you have to read some of the movie, but I honestly am not sure that you need any of that dialogue. The family dynamic is beautiful and it is integral in making the family characters you care about, but doesn't really add any flavor for me. Just the situation of "someone's coming to kill us" for a "normal" family trope is good enough for me, and every twist they add to this makes it a little bit more memorable and fun.
